Today we had a customer visit us from Grappenhall, Warrington, for a pre-MOT check. As part of our safety routine, we make sure the vehicle has sufficient oil present before carrying out an MOT test.
But when we dipped the oil on this car… the tip of the dipstick came out with thick, gooey lumps. Not what you want to see! 👀
We immediately advised an oil change — and once we drained all the black cottage cheese and removed the oil filter, this is what we found 😱, Engine kaboom💥 imminent.
Anyway, 3 oil flushes and 3 filters later, and disaster averted with one very relieved, happy customer 😁
What makes this concerning is that the car had recently been purchased from a dealer, who stated it had a full service history. 😳.

The Government has announced that from 2028, electric vehicles will switch to a pay-per-mile tax, expected to be around 3p per mile.
Drive 10,000 miles? That’s roughly £300 a year.
🔍 MOT mileage will now be used as official proof.
When you renew your road tax, you’ll have to declare your mileage — and the DVSA will cross-check it with the mileage recorded at your MOT.
If the numbers don’t match, it could trigger checks and penalties.
🆕 What about EVs under 3 years old?
Because they don’t have an MOT yet, the Government plans to introduce two mileage validation visits at MOT centres:
• One after year 1
• One after year 2
